Amongst the many start ups and business opportunities I read about one of the ones which stands out from the crowd is setting up a training company. Not the type of training that people can do without; you know the sort of stuff – leadership skills, management, life coaching etc etc.

These courses are fine in the good times when companies have plenty of money to splash around. However, in a recession when money and particularly training budgets are tight and being cut back this type of training course is quite often the first to feel the squeeze.

Going on all of the above courses yourself will help. Also a course such as Nebosh would be good as this would give you a professional qualification. You can employ trainers on a freelance basis at first until you have built up a large enough client base to employ full time instructors. There are also the membership fees of IPAF and PASMA to consider. These are not cheap but if you are serious about starting a business it is well worth considering. There is always the satisfaction of the knowledge that you have helped workers to be able to do their job much more safely. Who knows, your training may even save someone’s life!
